Hi folks,

So I think it's time we bless the trunk to be 1.17.

Helmut - if there are fixes on your branch that should be in the trunk
please commit them now.

I'll release 1.17 on the 7th August providing no show stoppers happen.

Others - please contribute documentation updates, and anything else you
can spot.

I'll examine how the 1.16 release is made up and probably make some
changes around that.
